If you can't change yourself... How can you hope to change your son?

"Smile often"

"Try to smile at your child whenever you catch their eye"

I tell a father who is consulting with me because his son is always grumpy and irritated. 

"But that's not me!!" He protests. 

"I am not such a smiley person."

Can you change that? I ask

No. ... No... He says. 

If you can't change yourself... How can you hope to change your son? I ask. 

Change begins with you. 

If you want a happy smiling grateful child around you. 

You cannot be a complaining grumpy parent :)
