Have you been told that you don’t have enough breastmilk because -

A: Your baby cries immediately after you finish breastfeeding them?

B: Your baby cries all night?

Have you been told to start formula feeds?

Do not listen to such advice.

A: Your baby cries immediately after you finish breastfeeding them because your breastmilk is so perfect that it is immediately digested and absorbed by your baby’s gut. And that is why your baby gets hungry by the end of the breastfeeding session.

Formula does not get digested easily so it remains in the stomach for longer and keeps your baby full.

What is better? Being full? Or being nourished?

B: Your baby cries all night because when they cry, they know that you will suckle them. And when they suckle, your breasts will start producing more breastmilk. More prolactin is produced at night so babies cry more at night because that is when their suckling will be most effective.

What is better? No crying? Or no breastmilk?

Giving your baby formula is the wrong way to keep your baby quiet.

Just offer another breastfeed.

You are amazing. You are enough.
