Do you hate it when your child gets a viral fever?

Who doesn’t

But do you know?

You can use every episode of viral fever to build your child’s immunity and ensure that your child falls sick less often and recovers quickly when they are ill.

And building immunity is very easy if you know these 5 things

1. Antibiotics are not helpful in viral fevers
Antibiotics kill bacteria not viruses
Antibiotics must only be taken when your doctor prescribes them
Using antibiotics at random for viral fevers can actually make things worse, because the antibiotics will kill the good bacteria in your child’s body and reduce their immunity.
This will make your child fall sick more often

2. Rest is the real treatment
The one thing that can help your child to recover quickly is rest.
The immune system needs all the energy it can get when it has to fight viral fevers.
If your child spends their energy going to school and so on – the immune system will not be able to fight the virus and your child will stay sick for longer

3. Expect the fever to shoot up at night
Don’t panic when your child’s fever shoots up at night.
The high fever is a sign that your child’s immune system is fighting hard.
Be prepared to monitor and tackle the fever as advised by your doctor

4. Do not force your child to eat
All the energy that is usually used for digestion is diverted to the immune system to fight the virus. That is why your child is not hungry.
Do not force your child to eat. Wait for their appetite to come back.

5. Wash away the virus
Focus on steam inhalation and gargling to wash the virus out of the nose and throat so that the infection resolves faster.
Give your child lots of water to wash out the toxins from their system in urine

Use every episode of viral fever to build immunity.
