Parents are working hard to prepare children for life. The effort is leaving many parents exhausted.

But workplaces are complaining that youngsters are not prepared for life.

They are saying Gen Z lacks initiative. They only follow instructions.
They are saying Gan Z lacks resilience. They give up too easily when faced with failure.
They are saying Gen Z lacks problem solving skills. They are not innovative and inventive.

The reason -
Parenting in its present avatar is so effortful and exhausting - that it is not creating the excitement and enthusiasm that youngsters need - to take on life.

A shift in focus is required in parenting.
What we really need to aspire for in parenting - is to build children who are CALM CONFIDENT and CREATIVE.

Fortunately building that does not require overwhelmed parents to add another task to their to-do list.

All they need to do is - reduce the CLUTTER
Buy fewer toys
Buy fewer clothes
Plan fewer activities

When you have less to do you will be relaxed and you will build your child’s CALM
When you are relaxed you will not get angry. This will build your child’s CONFIDENCE
When you are not pushing your child from activity to activity your child will be free. This will make your child CREATIVE.

Just one step –
RESOLVE TO REDUCE THE CLUTTER.

But doing that requires COURAGE.

At a workshop last week - I helped parents to understand what children REALLY NEED through the lens of neuroscience, with the goal of helping them find the courage to step away from parenting peer pressure and do less.

Do you think parents are exhausted?
What do you think would help?
