By trying to reduce children’s stress the wrong way, we may actually be increasing it.
Children don’t need the easy, entertaining life we are trying to give them. They need our support to navigate stress and build the skills to overcome the challenges causing it. The problem is -- they often ask for that support through “bad behaviour.” What adults call bad behaviour is often the developing brain asking for new experiences -- because it now feels capable of doing more. Bad behaviour is often a sign of development. The brain is saying, “I can.” But adults are responding, “You can’t.” Adults are disciplining with anger - and this is interfering with development. Harshitha Kumar, Dean NPS JP Nagar and NPS Varthur (National Public School), noticed this in her work with parents and students. She knew anger was not the right tool. But she recognised that calm explanations and logic didn’t work either. She joined the Certified Neuroscience Parenting Coach Course to understand why. Learning neuroscience helped her see that developing brains do not yet have the networks required to process adult logic. And children are not rejecting discipline -- they are asking for support to build the part of the brain that can understand it. She brought this understanding into conversations with teachers and parents across her schools. This is now shaping a more development-aligned culture across classrooms Gradually, environments that once felt stressful are beginning to feel safer. Conversations are simpler. Responses are more effective. To truly support children, we must shift from controlling behaviour to collaborating with development. When behaviour is viewed through a neuroscience lens, it is no longer just a problem -- it becomes a strategic opportunity for growth. The Certified Neuroscience Parenting Coach Course is for educators and parents who know something needs to change -- but are not sure what or how. The course helps you to lstop seeing bad behaviour and start listening to the child's appeal for support Are you ready to make this jounrney?
