If your child is making the same mistake again and again
DON’T call them STUBBORN

Your child may be making the same mistake again and again because YOU are making these 3 mistakes

1. You are SHOUTING at your child when they make a mistake
When you shout – your child’s LEARNING BRAIN shuts down
They don’t learn anything from their mistake and make the same mistake again and again

2. You are not REMINDING
Your child’s MEMORY is not fully developed. They can’t remember what you tell them for long
If you don’t keep reminding them about what they can and can’t do – they will make the same mistake again

3. You are not TEACHING them what they CAN DO
Telling your child to stop doing what they are doing is not enough
When you tell them what they must NOT do – you must also tell them what they CAN DO
Your child has to do SOMETHING.
If you don’t teach them the right thing they will do the wrong thing again.

Here are the steps you should follow when your child makes a mistake –

1. Stop your child without shouting
2. In a soft voice explain why they can’t do it
3. Teach them what they can do instead
4. When the chance to make the same mistake comes again – eg next birthday party – remind your child again about what they can and can’t do
5. When they are doing the right things – give them positive attention by smiling at them.
6. When you see that there is a chance for them to make the same mistake again – step in and remind them how they can handle the situation

Correct your Mistakes and your child will stop making the same mistakes again and again.

Share this with those who shout at your child and then call them stubborn
