10 brain-friendly ways to prepare children for reading and maths — without pressure
  1. Talk to your child more than you teach.
Conversation builds the brain pathways needed for reading.
  2. Read stories daily without testing or forcing learning.
Love for books comes before literacy.
  3. Let children climb, jump, crawl and balance.
Movement strengthens the brain for learning.
  4. Build hand strength through play.
Playdough, tearing paper, pouring and threading prepare the brain and hands for writing.
  5. Teach maths through real life.
Cooking, sorting, stacking and counting everyday objects builds number sense naturally.
  6. Prioritise play over worksheets in early childhood.
Play develops focus, memory and problem-solving.
  7. Allow boredom sometimes.
Independent play strengthens creativity and thinking.
  8. Reduce pressure around “early learning.”
    Stress weakens curiosity and confidence.
  9. Follow your child’s readiness instead of comparing milestones.
The brain learns best when development comes naturally.
  10. Focus on connection before correction.
Emotionally safe children learn faster and deeper.
Did you think of learning this way before reading this article?
If you did not you are not alone. Most parents are doing what they saw their parents doing in the past without thinking of how this will impact their children in the future.
But it is now time to shift from performance in the present to brain building to prepare for the future
It is time to start Parenting with Neuroscience
I can help you with that through my parenting with neuroscience courses
